Sidewood’s Mappinga Shiraz won “Best Australian Shiraz” in 2018 and scored 98 points with Decanter. The ultra-premium reserve range comes from their low yield, premium single vineyard estate grown vines. Berries sorted at the winery, 70-75% were gently pressed and 25-30% of the fruit was added whole in to the open topped fermentation tanks for a partial carbonic maceration. A minimum of 18 months maturation in a mix of 35% new and older French oak.
Sidewood Estate lies in the Onkaparinga Valley, with the westerly vines weathering the coldest climate in the Adelaide Hills. Under the guidance of gun winemakers Natasha Mooney and Darryl Catlin wine quality has reached new heights in recent times. Recent trophy and gold medal success has only confirmed Sidewood Estate as the rising star of the Adelaide Hills.
