Critics

“Aromas of currant, bark and orange peel. Nutmeg powder. Full body and chewy tannins. Savory, with balsamic and nuts. I love the juicy, decadent character to this”. – 95 Points, James Suckling

“The 2011 Cepparello is a big wine that moves over the palate with authority and determination. It reveals thick layers of tobacco, spice, red cherry, grilled herb and pretty ashy-mineral accents. This 100% Sangiovese also imparts a sense of austerity that is especially evident in the tight, but polished tannins”. – 94 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“Well-marked by oak, black cherry, blackberry, tobacco and iron flavors, this is rich and firm, picking up black tea and smoke notes on the long finish. Shows latent power. Sangiovese. Best from 2016 through 2025”. – 93 Points, Wine Spectator

Producer

In the 1950s, the father of current winemaker Paolo de Marchi purchased the adjoining hamlets of Isole e Olena and their estates in the Tuscan commune of Barberino Val d’Elsa. Paolo entered the business in 1976 and the quality of the estates’ wines improved rapidly after decades of sharecropping. Di Marchi is one of the region’s kings of the Sangiovese grape, at a time when Chianti was a blended wine it was he that stepped out to produce wines that were 100% Sangiovese.
