Critics

‘Dark in color, with intense aromas of blackberries and fresh herbs, such as basil, with a hint of eucalyptus. Full-bodied, with extremely well-polished tannins and a long, long finish. A tight and racy young wine that needs time to come into its own. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Collectibles’ –94 Points, Wine Spectator

‘The first two bottles I tasted of the 1999 Solaia were corked, but the third was brilliant. Its black/purple color is followed by a sumptuous bouquet of licorice, blackberries, mint, and cassis, all presented in a concentrated, medium to full-bodied, dense yet elegant style. Although still young, it is undoubtedly the qualitative equivalent of a Bordeaux first or second growth. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016’ – 94 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Producer

Antinori is a name synonymous with wine in Italy, the equivalent of the royal family of wine in the country. Intimately involved in the wine industry of Italy since 1385, initially in Tuscany, but in more recent years their influence has grown, seeing them involved in wine-making projects across the country.

They were instrumental in the renaissance of Chianti and their portfolio of wines includes some stellar names such as Tignanello – the Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc blend that was most influential in the Super Tuscan movement, and Solaia – the Cabernet dominant blend also from the Tignanello estate, and the beautiful Peppoli Chianti Classico.
